Mom (wife) here. Someday I should find an easier code name. Anyway, Dad is still recovering. Funny story: he has an appointment on Tuesday to have his stitches taken out. But when we changed his dressings on his hand, get this: there were no stitches....dom dom dommmmmmmmmm. Ok maybe that's a little dramatic. They probably just dissolved. Or they forgot to stitch him up. Ya know, whatevs.
I'm here to bring you today's Five Dollar Friday. Today my five bones went to Scary Mommy Nation. In a blog full of daddy issues (not that kind), we are recognizing a group aimed at helping out the mommies out there in need.
Scary Mommy was started by stay-at-home mommy blogger Jill Smokler with a simple blog about her family. Jill quickly gained popularity for her witty and very honest approach to motherhood with a common theme that John and I can both relate to: Parenting doesn't have to be perfect.
Jill took her fame and did something with it. She started Scary Mommy Nation. In 2011, she had followers posting anonymously to her community site confessing that they couldn't afford to have a Thanksgiving meal for their children. The Scary Mommy Community raised $20,000 in one week to help over 400 families have Thanksgiving last year.
Scary Mommy Nation has since expanded their project into a developing non-profit and has started other programs like the Scary Mommy Birthday Project and Scary Mommy of the Month. You can read more about these great programs on their website: http://www.scarymommy.com/scary-mommy-nation.
With our recent influx of new readers here at Ask Your Dad Blog, we can only hope to have as much success in raising more for good causes as Jill has had with Scary Mommy Nation. I'm excited to have my fiver going to those families that may need a little help these coming months.
You can donate via PayPal by visiting their website and hitting Click to Donate. (Or just click here. I like to make it easy for you). So here you go, Scary Mommy Nation. From one "scary mommy" to another.
Thanks to Guerrilla Mom for her Five Dollar Friday and her great guest post this week!
As always, if you have suggestions for future Five Dollar Fridays, please send us an email through the Contact Page with the subject "Five Dollar Fridays".
