Did I ever tell you about
the time that Apple Maps send Stevie and I to a field outside of Portland
Oregon? If I did, did I remember to mention the two, screaming children in the
back seat of our rental car? It was so much fun. SO. MUCH. FUN. At that moment,
I swore on my children's tears that I would forsake my iPhone and move on to a
new chapter in my life. And while I was at it, I would explore new cheap
wireless plans while trying to keep an unlimited plan for our data usage.
As you all may remember, I
am a member of an online community of bloggers that on occasion will review
services and products. I get paid to do these, but the opinions are mine. I
also get to pick and choose what I review. Well, when the chance to give the
Galaxy S4 on Walmart Family Mobile
came up, I jumped at the chance. I was ready to get rid of my iPhone, and here
was the chance to try something new for half the price of my monthly AT&T
payment, and no contract. Win/Win. Speaking of winning, have I mentioned how
much I love Fantasy Football? I love fantasy football as much as I hate awkward
transitions in blog posts. Sorry about that by the way.
But really, and I'm not kidding here. I love
fantasy football, and so does Stevie. We're sadly (or joyfully) obsessed with
it. Most of our Sundays are spent streaming games and checking our score.
Stevie loses pretty much every week. Honestly, she is truly horrible at Fantasy
Football and should probably quit forever. Bad bad bad.
Anyway… We don't talk to each other a lot on
Sundays, unless it is smack talk. It's kind of like that show The League, only
Stevie is way hotter than the lady on the League and I am not nearly as
attractive as the dude.
Here's where this ties back into the Walmart
Family Mobile plan and the Galaxy S4. One of the main reasons I have hesitated
leaving AT&T is that we are grandfathered into our unlimited data plan with
them. If we leave we can never get it back. Despite some issues with our
service, the thought of losing our unlimited data has kept us there –
especially during football season.

Whatever. I'm dreamy. |
Well, now with the help of Social
Fabric/Collective Bias and Walmart Family Mobile, I get to give their service a
try for the next few months and let you all know how it goes. This is the first
of two posts. The second will be in early November. For now, I'll tell you a
little bit about the purchasing experience.
Stevie and I packed Duchess and Captain up
and went to Walmart to get the S4 and sign up for the plan. Unfortunately the
first place we went to did not have it in yet. They were kind enough to call
around the valley and find one that did. I talked to the guy on the phone and
he said that had one left! He set it aside and we loaded the kids back in the
car and headed out.
As we approached the electronics desk I saw a
customer, a man about my age, purchasing a Galaxy S4! I looked at Stevie and
may have said something embarrassingly sassy like "Oh no he didn't!?"
and approached the desk ready to battle. Turns out the Walmart employee thought
that the gentlemen was me and sold him my phone. I was ready to be ticked off
when the counter person whipped out some awesome customer service skills.
- He apologized
- He committed to making it right
- He smiled (It is really hard to be mad at someone who is smiling and offering to help.)
Before calling more stores, he thought it
would be worth it for him to go dig around the stock room. Their inventory
system said there should be one more, but he didn't know if they had it or not.
10 minutes later, looking a bit disheveled, he emerged with my new phone, still
smiling!
A few
minutes later, a call to online account management and information to get our information and the phone was activated and ready to
go! Aside from the initial hiccup, it was a pretty smooth experience. You can
view pictures of it here.
So there you go! We take
turns getting new phones in the Kinnear family, and it's Stevie's turn. So she
will be using this great new cell phone for the next few months, watching
football, and watching herself lose horribly in Fantasy Football. We'll be back
in November to let you know how it went.
Thanks guys!
Love, Dad (John)
P.S. Once again, just to
make sure we're all on the same page, I am getting paid for this post. All
money received from this post goes directly to the Duchess and Captain Daycare
Fund of America. #FamilyMobileSaves #cbias
P.S.S. Stevie is so bad at Fantasy Football, the Brown's second string could beat her.
First of all, that baby is so cute I could eat his face off. Second, your little girl is adorable, but too big for face consumption. Finally, Walmart? Really? Gross.
ReplyDeleteI really don't mind Walmart. The one near our house is actually really nice. I used to live by a really bad one, and if it was anything like the ones that you don't like, then I understand where you're coming from!
DeleteNice job! Thanks for your participation in this campaign! #client
